Maniacal Rage: Fuck You, Tiny Wings
I hate this game. I hate it so much. Every time I open it, I tense up. I dread touching for sunrise. I hate the night. It’s a fucking bastard, the night. And what about the sun? The sun is a lazy bitch who only helps you out in the beginning and then no matter how well you fly it just sits up…

Nick Farina: A lightweight HTTP request class for iOS
Check out SMWebRequest on Github.
Let’s say you’re writing an app, either on iOS or the desktop, and you want to download some JSON data from a web service.
With JavaScript and jQuery, this is a one-liner:

Sigh, if only.
Well, technically you could do this in one line:

But if you…

Next time they come with the “free downloads are damaging the creative people” shtick, show them this. (via Rob Paterson’s Posterous)
This makes me sick to my stomach.

I’d rather be a small indie band selling my own records instead of selling millions of albums signed at a large record company.

When I do count the clock that tells the time,
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night;
When I behold the violet past prime,
And sable curls, all silvered o’er with white;
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves,
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,
And summer’s green all girded up in sheaves,
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,
Then of thy beauty do I question make,
That thou among the wastes of time must go,
Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake
And die as fast as they see others grow;
And nothing ‘gainst Time’s scythe can make defence
Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.Shakespeare - Sonnet XII

Today was the day for the Paris edition of the iPhone Tech Talk World Tour 2009, a group of talks where the iPhone Development gurus share with the developers some secrets, tips and tricks that allow us to enhance the global quality and performance of our apps. The event took place in the Maison internationale, Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, a beautiful and pleasant space.
Clicmobile allowed us all, me and my colleagues Basile and Romain a great day, full of things that will certainly enhance our apps performance and experience.
With three rooms for the talks and one Lab where us, mere mortals, could see our doubts clarified and lots of questions answered.
There where talks for everyone:
- Effective iPhone App Development 1 & 2;
- Audio Development Tips for iPhone;
- iPhone User Interface Design Essentials;
- Preparing and Delivering Video for iPhone;
- Adding In App Purchase to your App;
- Working with Core Data;
- Mastering OpenGL ES for iPhone 1 & 2;
- Integrating Web Content into iPhone Apps;
- Testing and Debugging Your iPhone Application;
- Finding your way with Location and Maps;
- Maximizing iPhone App Performance;
- Networking: From Sockets to GameKit;
- Implementing Push Notification;
Unfortunately there where three concurrent talks at each time which made it impossible to attend each one, having to choose from the ones we found most interesting/necessary for our needs.
In every talk there where examplified/demonstrated ways and patterns to implement solutions that not only simplify but also highly enhance the applications using them.
It was good to get to know other developers, mostly french but not only, as it was to speak with some of speakers, always available to answer our questions.
It was also a day to realize how little you know compared to all the iPhone SDK potential.
